The Beginning
The idea for Sunlit Stories was hatched late one night while I was sleep deprived and nursing our newborn son. I have a lot of friends in the wedding photography business, and I thought, why don’t I do something like that?
I’m not a photographer. I’m a writer. I’ve written (and published!) a novel, and I studied journalism in college. So, instead of doing it like everyone else, I decided to do something that would utilize my own unique talents and skills.
Thus, Sunlit Stories was born. Our goal is quite simple. We want to offer couples something truly unique–their wedding story preserved not in photographs or video, but through prose. We want people to be able to open up a book, and read their own love story.
Because that’s a story worth telling, isn’t it?
What We Do (And How We Do It)
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but words share a depth of emotion that pictures and video seldom can. We write your love story into a book so that you and your family will be able to relive it again and again. We want you to be able to feel the sun on your skin, to hear the laughter of your friends and family, and to see the smile on your beloved’s face as they walk down the aisle. We don’t want couples to simply have another pretty book to place on a shelf — we want them to be able to live and breathe their wedding day all over again.
The process itself looks a little different depending on which package you choose, but the basics are the same. After you’ve booked your package, we will schedule an initial interview with you and your fiancé to talk about your vision, your story, and to get to know each other. Then we will attend your wedding to take notes and gather as many details as we can. This may include talking to guests, taking pictures and video, and shadowing the bride and groom. Don’t worry! Our job is to blend in as much as possible so that you can enjoy your day while knowing that someone is there to capture all those little moments for you. After your wedding we will set up a second interview with the bride and groom to fill in any pieces we may have missed, and to make sure we really capture all the emotions you felt.
Afterwards, we will write up your story and put together your package. Your story is a joint effort, so we will keep in touch and reach out if we need more details. And remember, writing takes time! Your story could take a few weeks, or up to a year for some of our longer packages.
